Independent Living Skills

By participating in the ABC to Independent Living Program you will learn and gain the confidence you need to live more independently though skill development and practice. This will be in a supportive environment which will enhance your learning experience.

Live-in weekend program

The ABC to Independent Living Program is run over a weekend, from Friday night until Sunday afternoon. This is a live-in program where you have the flexibility to choose when you attend and for how often. The program is designed to maintain and develop people's skills to live safely and be as independent as possible around the home. The program is tailored to met individuals needs ranging from those who have limited experience in doing things for themselves to those who are ready to spread their wings and fly the coup! Programs will be held in small groups, minimum of four people at MiLife-Victoria's Culburra Learning Centre. NDIS short term accommodation funding can be used for this program.

Program Structure

Each client’s goals need to be understood and considered by staff during the program. An initial assessment will be undertaken by MiLife-Victoria staff. The skills assessment will cover tasks such as:

  • Daily tasks in the home (bed, dishes, sweeping floors, etc. )
  • General cleaning around the home (dusting, mopping, vacuuming etc.)
  • Managing own clothes
  • Socialising and social skills
  • Personal hygiene
  • Making meals and snacks
  • Living with other people
  • Personal and home safety
